About BrunchCritic.com

Welcome to New York's Only ALL Brunch Resource! We hope you use this site to find the perfect brunch spot to meet your needs, anytime, anywhere.

After being frustrated by the lack of information easily available on the web to find that perfect brunch venue, we decided to create BrunchCritic.com. There are plenty of food related websites, blogs and directories available to New Yorkers, but none that truly identify details about brunch. We realized that we were not alone in wanting quick, accessible and specific information on Brunching in New York, and there was a demand not being met.

How It All Began

BrunchCritic.com is personal. I am a refugee from the corporate world from which I fled in March 2010, and I haven't looked back. My interest in developing a Brunch only site started when my old roommates and I would go to brunch on the weekend. I was the person that researched and picked the venue, and before too long, our two person brunches grew.

Andrea as a Kid It might also be worth mentioning that growing up my mother made me pancakes every single morning until I was in the 7th grade. I guess something stuck...

I'd bring a few friends that my roommates didn't know, and they did the same, and brunch functioned not only as a delicious and relaxing meal, but also a very fun time to meet other people. Brunch, at least twice a week, became a ritual for me. I began keeping a list in Excel and it grew.

People started asking me for brunch recommendations based on events. Questions included "Andrea, where do I take my divorced parents who are coming to town for my graduation," and "Andrea do you have suggestions for where I can take my kinda-sorta boyfriend, (actually not really sure what we are friend), a place that is fun and easy going" and "where can I catch up with a group of college friends - but is quiet enough that we can hear each other." I myself had unique circumstances for going to brunch and realized it was awfully frustrating to locate the perfect spot on the World Wide Web. There were days when I'd wake up late, say to myself "I have a headache and all I want are some pancakes!" and I could not easily identify what restaurant served what I wanted late in the afternoon, and located near my apartment. I decided to take matters in to my own hands, and BrunchCritic.com was born.

Little details are important to me, and I've made sure that we always list a cross street with an address (e.g. I have no idea where 1095 Broadway is!), the actual brunch hours are always listed because it doesn't help my brunch search if I know the restaurant closes at 11pm at night for dinner, and the reviews and user comments are focused only on brunch. Since restaurants don't always have the same reservation policy for brunch as they do for dinner, we'll help you decipher that too.

We all lead fast paced, busy lives and weekends are meant to be enjoyed! I hope that this site helps you spend more time out and about, and less time searching the online universe for what you really want. If this site is useful, I have done my job. Please feel free to reach me directly and tell me What we are doing well, What we are not, and What we can do better.
